A surround sound system consists of seven speakers and two active or passive subwoofers. It includes a left, right, and center speaker placed in front of the listener, a left and right side speaker , and two rear speakers (also called satellite speakers) that sit to the left and right behind the listener to provide a fully enveloping sound.
