Compactness had to be sacrificed for the sake of improved components and cooling. Such an important feature as the ability to install the device vertically and horizontally has been preserved. The only problem is that the vertical stand will have to be purchased separately.

It is also able to read audio CDs and DVDs. When the console presents the error, “Please insert PlayStation 2 format disc”, the problem could either the console or the disc itself. If the reading lens within the console is damaged or dirty, it will not be able to read any discs. Additionally, if the disc has scratches or is dirty, the console will not be able to recognize it.

Unlike prior PlayStation consoles, this red error message is a result of a hardware or software error, not a problem with the disc being read. The red screen of death can be caused by either missing things from the BIOS, necessary components, files, or caused by the system itself.
