The gameplay of the original Street Fighter III is based on Super Street Fighter II Turbo , but with several new abilities and features introduced. Players can now dash or retreat like in the Darkstalkers series , perform high jumps and do a quick standing after falling from an attack. The game also introduced "leap attacks", which are small jumping attacks used against crouching opponents. However, the player cannot block in the air like in the Street Fighter Alpha series .
En 1993 , Capcom sort Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers , une autre référence, qui tire profit du tout nouveau système arcade CPS-2 . Il se démarque par 4 nouveaux personnages, des cinématiques de fin, des thèmes musicaux et extraits de voix intégralement revus (chaque personnage dispose désormais d'un cri de . et d'une voix exclusive) et de nouveaux coups spéciaux pour les personnages de départ. Suit ensuite une amélioration de ladite version appelée The Tournament Battle sur Arcade, qui inclut les tournois à 8 sur 8 bornes séparées, puis en 1994 Super Street Fighter II Turbo ( Super Street Fighter II X: Grand Master Challenge au Japon) qui introduit les Super Combos (un par personnage) ainsi qu'un nouveau boss final caché : Akuma .
L'album est publié le 7 juillet 1999 au Japon au format CD et MiniDisc via le label Suleputer [ 10 ] .
Le joueur est invité en début de match à choisir une furie parmi trois disponibles et ne pourra alors utiliser que celle-ci. Il est cependant possible, à l'instar de la série Street Fighter EX, d'annuler un coup spécial dans un super art.

All the characters from 2nd Impact returned, with the exception of Shin Akuma, a computer-controlled version of Akuma with more powerful techniques (although the character still exists in the game's code).
