La personnalité et l'intelligence de Mega Man correspondent à celles d'un garçon de 10 ans. Il n'a pas la maturité des robots futurs (tel Mega Man X ) mais il est loyal au professeur Light et a un sens aigu de la justice, d'ailleurs il considère le professeur Light comme son père il fait de même avec Roll qu'il considère comme sa sœur et elle aussi il essaye toujours de protéger l'humanité. Comme beaucoup de robots, Mega Man obéit aux lois dérivées des trois lois de la robotique . Cependant dans Mega Man 7 , il semble proche de les briser en voulant tuer le professeur Wily. Quand il le menace de son arme, dans la version originale, Mega Man reste silencieux après que Wily lui rappelle cette interdiction, mais dans la version anglaise, il dit qu'il est plus qu'un robot. Pourtant dans le jeu, Wily dit simplement que Mega Man n'a pas le droit de tuer des humains.
Chill Penguin ( アイシー・ペンギーゴ , lit. "Icy Penguigo") is a Maverick from the X series , first appearing as one of the bosses in Mega Man X . He is an ice-themed Reploid based on a penguin, with the ability to summon snowstorms and create ice sculptures. He was a Maverick Hunter serving in the 13th Polar Region Unit until he joined Sigma 's rebellion.

Capcom wanted a redesign in graphics and control as the Mega Man series moved from the NES to the SNES, prompting the creation of the Mega Man X series in 1993. Set years in the future, this series follows the story of Mega Man's successor, X , a new, advanced robot that has complete free will over his actions, thoughts and feelings. This character, also a creation of Dr. Light, was put into suspended animation and uncovered 100 years in the future by a researcher named Dr. Cain . The Mega Man X series features more detailed 16-bit graphics and greater freedom of movement. In the Mega Man X series, the characters grow in abilities and power as the game progresses. While the gameplay loop and combat is largely similar to the Classic Mega Man series, Mega Man X series differs from its increased emphasis on mobility, with X being able to dash and reach higher places through the use of his various armors gained throughout the games, as well as its more mature story than its predecessor.
