The PSX was released in 2003. It was a video recorder that allowed you to play PlayStation 2 games. It had a built-in hard drive (up to 250 GB ). It did not sell well, because it cost too much money, so it was not released outside of Japan. [ 4 ] Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas became the most sold game, with over million copies sold.

Based off a 2021 job listing from Sony that suggests the development of a new console, we can assume that the PS6 release date will be around 2026.
The PS2’s success was also influenced by its ability to attract third-party developers, who produced many critically acclaimed and commercially successful games. Iconic titles such as “Grand Theft Auto III,” “Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty,” and “Final Fantasy X” became defining moments for the console and helped to cement its reputation as a leading gaming platform.
But perhaps the most impressive aspect of the PS2’s advertising run was a television commercial known as “The Third Place,” and more specifically, the fact that it was directed by none other than the late David Lynch. In line with the rest of Sony’s PS2 campaigns, the advertisement never showed the console, instead taking the viewer on a short black and white journey of flames, floating heads and a talking duck, revealing only the stylized PS2 logo right at the end to allude to the film’s meaning.
