Blending Cycladic traditions with a twist of modernity, Mykonian chef-owner of M-Eating, Panagiotis Menardos, is considered by his peers to be one of the finest chefs in the archipelago. Others on the island strive to be the most luxurious, but Menardos opted to serve quintessential local food when he opened his restaurant in 2019. Meat takes centre stage (the clue’s in the name), especially in the main dishes, which include plates such as the vacuum-cooked pork tenderloin with a mushroom sauce and a rich Naxos graviera mousse or the stuffed chicken fillet with sun-dried tomatoes and a green bean puree. Every recipe has its roots deep in the Mykonian and Cycladic heritage, and, like the narrator of an epic, every year, he adds a new culinary chapter to his feel-good menu. Housed within a traditional building from the early 20th century, there’s a country cottage-like feel to match the hearty dishes served, which, with just one exception, all use ingredients produced in the Cyclades – from the meat to the cheese. The exception? The lamb. Mykonos doesn't produce enough to meet local demand, so the star of chef Menardos’ bestselling dish, a lamb cooked at low temperature for 40 minutes, is ferried in. End with the Mykonian honey pie served alongside an accompanying honey ice cream.
